Photomoji Feature Now Available on Google Messages App

Apple users have been using Memoji for a few years, and now it’s time for Google users to get a taste of Moji in the form of Photomoji. That’s right, the Google Messages app is getting a new feature called Photomoji, which basically means you can create an emoticon from your personal photos. The Messages app is the default messaging app on Android phones, and it comes from Google.

While iMessage on iOS is identified by blue bubbles, Google Messages in this case are green bubbles. Green messages will soon get this interesting feature as Google wants to attract more people to sign up for its app. So what is Photomoji, how is it different from Apple’s Memoji, and how does it work on Android? Here are the details.

What is Photomoji

Photomoji are basically emoticons that use your real-life photos that you can snap from your phone’s camera and use to show different expressions. It doesn’t matter if your face is smiling, crying or angry, everything works as a Photomoji, which is sure to be exciting. Emojis can be hard to decipher, but if your face is attached to a Photomoji, the emotion will definitely make sense to the other person.

The Google Messages app supports RCS chats, and that’s where Photomoji works. RCS chat is Android’s version of iMessage that offers advanced media features and some encryption. Google claims that over a billion users use RCS, which may be a large number, and most of them may have just activated the feature.

How to Create and Use Photomoji on Android Phone

Google is rolling out Photomoji in stages, so only certain beta testers have access to the feature for now. Those who have the feature can follow these instructions and try it out:

– Open Google Messages on your phone

– Chat with a friend in the Messages application

– Now click on Create Photomoji option

– Press the + button to create a new Photomoji

– You take a picture from the gallery or click a new one from the camera

– Click Done to crop the photo and save the Photomoji

Now choose a new Photomoji and share it with friends or family in Google Messages via RCS chat.
